EMS Whole Body Training: A Revolution in Health & Fitness

EMS Whole Body Training

In recent years, there has been a growing trend in the health and fitness world towards EMS whole body training. EMS whole body training is a highly effective workout technique that uses electrical muscle stimulation to activate all major muscle groups simultaneously.

This innovative training method is revolutionising the way people exercise, providing a time-efficient and highly effective way to get in shape. One of the leading machines used in EMS whole body training is the Miha-Bodytec, a state-of-the-art device that delivers a full-body workout in just 20 minutes. In this blog, we will explore what EMS whole body training is, the benefits of the Miha-Bodytec machine, and how this training method can help alleviate chronic low back pain.

What is EMS Whole Body Training?

EMS, which stands for electrical muscle stimulation, is a training technique that has been used for decades in physiotherapy and rehabilitation settings to help patients regain strength and muscle function. This type of technique was limited as it could only be applied to one area of the body at a time due to its small size and stick on electrodes. This is where the development of EMS whole body training has revolutionised the world of EMS.

In recent years, EMS has been adapted for use in fitness training, with whole body EMS training becoming increasingly popular among top athletes such as Usain Bolt (Jamaican Sprinter and Fastest Man to ever live), David Haye (Professional Boxer), Rafael Nadal (Professional Tennis Player) fitness enthusiasts, and even celebrities (Tom Holland aka Spiderman), Madonna (no explanation needed) and Heidi Klum (Top Fashion Model).

EMS whole body training involves wearing a special undergarment and top suit that is equipped with electrodes. The suit comprises of a jacket, gluteal strap, leg and arm straps. Each of these parts of the top suit deliver electrical impulses to the major muscle groups of the body, causing them to contract and relax.

These impulses mimic the natural action of the central nervous system, activating all major muscle groups simultaneously and providing a more intense and effective workout than traditional strength training.

Now don’t be fooled EMS whole body training is not passive, you don’t just lay there and get zapped. What happens is you perform a series of movements / exercises whilst the electrical stimulation from the electrodes goes into the muscles. So this is like a BOGOF! It’s exercising on steroids from the point of view of muscle mass gains and muscle strength gains. You get the benefits from you performing the exercises as in traditional strength training but you get an extra boost from the electrical impulses whilst you perform for example a squat or a single leg balance.

For those of you that love a stat EMS whole body training stimulates over 90% of large muscle groups and a greater number of muscle fibres. This results in higher muscle recruitment leading to more intense muscle contractions and better gains in muscle strength and muscle mass in less time!

How EMS Whole Body Training Helps Chronic Low Back Pain

Chronic low back pain is a common condition that affects millions of people worldwide. In the UK alone the figure for incidence of low back pain is 9.5 million people per year and this figure is predicted to rise significantly by 2050!

Low back pain can be caused by a variety of factors, including disc injury, spondylosis, poor posture, muscle imbalances, and lifestyle habits to name a few.

Traditional treatments for low back pain often involve medication, massage, physiotherapy, chiropractic treatment, injections or surgery. However, EMS whole body training offers a promising alternative for managing and alleviating chronic low back pain. As a chronic low back pain sufferer since 1997 I know this all too well.

Yes even physios like me get low back pain. I ruptured my L5 disc 13 years ago now and was offered surgery but I declined as an intensive 10 day course of daily physiotherapy with one of my team members got me from considering surgery to being 95+% pain free. Despite recovering from this I continued to have flare ups every 3 months of sharp, catching pain and muscle spasms in my back but no leg pain thankfully.

Physiotherapy was keeping things at a level but it wasn’t until I added in EMS whole body training that things really started to improve for me. I heard about EMS whole body training from a fellow health professional in Bedford who said he had tried it for his symptoms post covid, after one of his clients had tried it in Harley Street for his arthritic knees.

I was super nervous during my first session of EMS with the Miha-Bodytec team as bending was always a big no no for me and you guessed it, one of the EMS back pain movements was bending forwards. I was bricking it but got through the session with zero issues. I was astounded and then worried about any flare ups in the coming days. Nothing came!!!!!!

As the jacket that you wear in EMS whole body training has electrodes over your abdominal muscles, chest muscles, upper, mid and low back muscles electrical impulses are sent to your abdominal, chest, mid and low back muscles as you perform the movements. What I felt was my trunk and low back felt totally supported when performing all the movements even bending forwards.

Due to this supported feeling from the electrodes stimulating my own abdominal, and spinal muscles to contract I grew less scared of bending forwards to such a point now 16 months down the line I never fear bending.

EMS whole body training has been an absolute life-line for me and my low back pain issues. I thought as I was pre-EMS that was life for me and I would have episodes of misery with low back flare ups for the rest of my life but now I get out of bed no problems, I power walk along the seafront for 45 mins every day with no issues during or afterwards. I have even been able to jog along the running track with my daughter without issues which is something I never thought I would ever do again.

I still have physiotherapy once a week but this is for maintenance rather than pain relief.

EMS whole body training can help alleviate chronic low back pain by strengthening the core muscles that support the spine and this certainly has been the case for me. The electrical impulses delivered by the Miha-Bodytec machine activate the deep stabilising muscles of the core, including the transverse abdominis and multifidus muscles. These muscles play a crucial role in maintaining proper spinal alignment and preventing low back pain.

In addition to strengthening the core muscles, EMS whole body training also helps improve posture and balance, two factors that are closely linked to low back pain. By activating all major muscle groups simultaneously, EMS whole body training helps to correct muscle imbalances and improve overall body alignment, reducing strain on the lower back and decreasing the risk of injury.

With this point in particular for me my gluteal muscles, thigh and calf muscles have all got a lot stronger and toned which takes the pressure off my back during daily activities such as walking, climbing the stairs two at a time, squatting to lift heavier items. Prior to EMS whole body training my back would ache like mad and have painful clicks post walking. This was because I was walking in a lazy manner as my legs were not propelling me forwards as they are meant to do.

Now I can feel my leg muscles propelling me forwards and I can feel the balls of my feet really working and pushing the pavement away from me as I walk. I never had this feeling before EMS whole body training.

Furthermore, EMS whole body training can also lead to increased flexibility and range of motion, both of which are important for preventing and managing low back pain. The electrical impulses delivered by the Miha-Bodytec machine help to relax tight muscles and improve joint mobility, making it easier to move and perform everyday activities without experiencing pain.

In conclusion, EMS whole body training is a highly effective and time-efficient workout technique that offers numerous benefits for overall fitness and well-being. The Miha-Bodytec machine being the only medically certified machine globally is a state-of-the-art device that delivers a full-body workout in just 20 minutes, making it an ideal choice for busy individuals who want to get out of pain and in shape quickly and efficiently.

EMS whole body training can help alleviate chronic low back pain by strengthening the core muscles, improving posture and balance, and increasing flexibility and range of motion. With its proven benefits and positive impact on overall health, EMS whole body training is truly a game-changer in the world of health and fitness.

Thank you Miha-Bodytec for creating a brilliant piece of kit that has honestly changed my life for the better!
