Pilates: restore the balance of your body
The Pilates technique is taught in two categories, matwork and machine based work. Here at W.D.C. we offer matwork based Pilates. The main theme of matwork exercise is maintaining a central core of stability in the lumbo-pelvic region.
The exercises consist of strengthening, mobility and stretching to correct weakness, imbalances and malalignment of the body. By re-educating the body Pilates helps prevent recurrence of conditions such as low back pain, neck pain, aswell as aiding in the reocvery and recurrence of upper and lower limb injuries such as shoulder, hip and knee pain to name a few.
W.D.C. Physiotherapy follows the Australian Physiotherapy & Pilates Institute (APPI)) method which is designed by physiotherapists specifically for use in the rehabilitation setting. With the APPI method traditional Pilates exercises are broken down and modified to suit the clinical setting.
The APPI method is suitable for use in Orthopaedic, Sports Injury, Women's Health and Paediatric areas.
